The speaker will discuss the impact of developments in science and technology, weaponry, tactics, national strategy and mobilisation after the First World War on the Republic of China's military and its thinking, especially how Republican soldiers understood the concept of "modern war".

Marriage Advertisements: The Romantic Life of Republican Women   (Cancelled)
Based on the marriage advertisements published in newspapers in the Republican period, the speaker will take an in-depth look at social relationships, the reasons for these advertisements, the marital conditions experienced by wives and concepts of romance among women in this era to show the changes that women's lives underwent after the revolution.
